Gilbert Grosvenor, the former chairman of the National Geographic Society and editor of its magazine, will talk about his half-century career with one of the world’s most recognizable magazines at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the Fourth Estate room.

Gilbert M. Grosvenor was the third generation of his family to run the magazine, dating back to Gilbert H. Grosvenor, who began as an assistant editor in 1899. Gilbert H. Grosvenor joined the the National Press Club before 1914, and at one time in 1956, three generations of Grosvenors voted in a Club election.

Gilbert M. Grosvenor will be interviewed by his brother, Ed Grosvenor, a member of the Club’s History and Heritage team, which is sponsoring the event. He is editor of American Heritage Magazine.

Grosvenor recently published “A Man of the World: My Life at National Geographic,” which describes audacious feats of exploration from the successful hunt for the Titanic to Jane Goodall’s field studies. Offering a rare portrait of one of the world’s most iconic media empires, this autobiography makes an impassioned argument to know – and care for – our planet.
