- The four-part documentary, in development for six years, will air Sept. 19 through Sept. 22 on PBS. The film chronicles the life of the three-time heavyweight boxing champion both in the ring and outside of it as he became an outspoken societal critic on issues such as racial and religious prejudice, and the Vietnam War. The documentary draws from archival footage, photographs and interviews with Ali’s family and friends, his fellow boxers, and the journalists who covered him to create a detailed portrait of the athlete and the man.
