- Mercy Corps, a non-governmental aid group, works in more than 40 countries, including conflict zones and difficult access areas. It is one of the few non-governmental organizations still working in Syria, now in its 10th year of civil war. The organization says the COVID-19 pandemic is worsening food insecurity, unemployment, economic and gender inequality, and conflict.
