The AFLSE Scholarship for 2024-2025, covering tuition costs for a year of graduate study at LSE, has been awarded to Destiny Muller.

Destiny graduated summa cum laude from the University of Missouri in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Journalism. Her economics thesis analyzed the impact of rising housing costs on poverty in the US, while her journalism capstone explored perceptions on the wealth gap and class identity in Missouri.   Destiny also served as an Econometrics Research Assistant, Urban Economics Teaching Assistant, reporter at multiple news outlets, and taught a course on Economics and Social Problems to first-year students.

Outside the classroom, Destiny founded Undergraduate Women in Economics, an organization that doubled female enrollment in the economics program and helped the Department earn the American Economic Association's inaugural award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion. She was also a residential advisor and volunteered with non-profits focused on housing assistance and anti-poverty measures.   Destiny received the John Charles Willett Memorial Scholarship for her dedication to peer mentorship.

Post-graduation, Destiny worked as an Economic Research Assistant at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Washington D.C., contributing to regulatory and economic analyses on projects including incentive-based compensation, liquidity readiness, anti-money laundering, and countering terrorism financing. She also continued her volunteer work with housing-insecure populations at HousingUp.

As a prospective sociologist and writer, Destiny is interested in the dynamics of economic equality movements and the impact of policy and regulatory framework on economic power distribution. She plans to pursue a Master’s in Political Sociology at LSE and aims to earn a Ph.D. in the future.

Destiny is deeply honored to be the 2024-2025 AFLSE Scholarship recipient and is excited to join the AFLSE community.
